Photogravure made from original of Curtis
by John Andrew and Son
7.75 x 15 in
This work is from collection of Curtis’ photolithographs made in a period between 1900 and 1927. Similar prints are part of the collection of Smithsonian. Each print has Curtis signature on it (see image, visible under the direct light). The provenance of this collection is quite notable – the works allegedly were given to a chief of a local tribe by author himself. Some of them are actually marked AP. The value of the works was unknown to the owner at a time and they were kept as regular papers, hence the present condition flaws. The chief later transferred them to a late wife of the current owner. Not like most known prints of Curtis works, this collection all it’s history spent in the hands of Native-Americans.
